Fruit snacks are flooding the market as the government and policy making agencies are encouraging Americans to eat more fruits and veggies daily. All-fruit bars are a natural alternative to cereal and energy bars. We recently looked at two brands.
That’s It bars are just that, 2 ingredients pressed into a bar – Apple Apricot, Apple Cherry, and Apple Pear. Each flavor has 100 calories and 3 grams of fiber. They are kosher, vegan, and gluten-free. Each bar tasted like the fruit variety. Apple Apricot was tangy sweet, Apple Cherry pleasantly sweet, and Apple Pear had the mildest fruit flavor. All 3 bars were far less sweet than most products in this category because there are no sweeteners or fruit juice concentrates added… … Read More

Every so often a new food product is introduced that is not only healthy, but just plain fun. Grapple apples are exactly that.
Grapple apples start as either Washington State Gala or Fuji apples. Using a patented process the apples are gently bathed in a 100% food grade grape flavor solution. We are not talking about bubble gum artificial grape flavor. The apples both smell and taste of a delicate, subtle Concord grape flavor. You crunch into the apple while experiencing a mild grape smell and taste. The grape flavor does not overpower the original apple but blends with it in taste and texture for a mouthful of fun. Kids will love these apples… … Read More

The Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Tribe of Indians is one of nine federally recognized Indian tribal governments in the state of Oregon. Though the Umpqua Indians were one of the first tribes to ratify a treaty with the US in 1853, this treaty left the tribe landless. The tribe was paid 2.3 cents an acre for their land and the treaty they signed was basically ignored by the Federal government. In 1980 the Cow Creeks took a land claims case to the US Court of Claims and won a $1.5 million settlement. The tribe placed the entire settlement into an endowment and used the interest on this money to fund economic development, education, and housing for their members… … Read More

Every so often you find a new brand of an old favorite food and you are surprised that something you like has gotten even better. We are fans of Greek-style yogurt, as we are sure many of you are, too. Karoun Mediterranean Style Yogurt is excellent. It is creamy and thick and the texture does not break down or weep after the yogurt culture has been compromised by scooping out a portion. It is made of hormone-free (rBST) cow’s milk, has live probiotic cultures, and is kosher (OU) certified. It comes in Nonfat, Lowfat, and Whole Milk plain-flavored varieties. … Read More

Everyone is telling us to eat more fruits and vegetables. The new My Plate symbol from the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that your plate be half filled with fruits and vegetables. Most experts feel 5 to 9 servings a day are the optimum intake. Sadly, most Americans don’t even come close, unless you count French fries and ketchup.
Ideally, we’d like to see everyone walking around munching on a fresh apple or carrot sticks. Crunch Pak products might actually help us reach that goal. … Read More
