omega power bread 300We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

The founder of Healthy Joy Bakes is a third generation baker whose motivation for creating Omega Power Bread was to provide his grandmother, who had diabetes, with a good tasting, low carb, nutritious alternative to regular bread.

The bread has the taste and texture of any whole grain, high fiber bread, but the ingredients are intriguingly simple – ground flax meal, coarse rye meal, wheat gluten, water, yeast and salt. The result is a bread with 78 calories in a 1.4-ounce slice with 2.5 grams of fat (no saturated fat or cholesterol), 5 grams of carb (no sugar and 4 grams of fiber) and 20 milligrams of sodium. Flaxseed is a rich source of omega-3 heart-healthy fats.

The company recommends refrigerating or freezing the bread as it has no preservatives. It is kosher certified (cRc). We enjoyed it toasted.
