HIN_Fizz_300We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Hint, the name says it all. This is unsweetened water with a hint of fruit flavor. There are no added sweeteners, colors or preservatives. It is a mild-tasting,
zero calorie, hydrating water which is a nice alternative to plain tap or bottled water. The flavors are all subtle and there is no overpowering sweetness.

Hint Unsweetened Essence Water is available in 16-ounce plastic bottles in ten flavors: Blackberry, Cucumber, Honeydew-Hibiscus, Lime, Mango-Grapefruit, Pear, Pomegranate-Tangerine, Raspberry-Lime, Strawberry-Kiwi, and Watermelon.

Hint Fizz is an unsweetened sparkling water available in 12-ounce glass bottles in four  flavors: Blackberry, Peach, Strawberry-Peach, and Watermelon. Fizz was our favorite.
All Hint flavors are kosher certified (OU).

polarSeltzer-300Polar has been making its seltzers since 1882 from 3 simple ingredients – water, bubbles and a hint of natural flavor. They make 16 flavored seltzers
plus Original unflavored. We tasted Orange Vanilla (the newest flavor), Granny Smith Apple, and Raspberry Lime. All flavors were mild, refreshing, and pleasantly bubbly. They are calorie free, sodium free, and are kosher certified (OU). In addition to the core line of flavors, Polar has begun to offer limited edition seasonal flavors.

For those who are tired of plain bottled water, Polar Seltzer offers a refreshing change and is an excellent hydration option.

Dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, non-GMO (not genetically modified), and vegan, Komplete Ultimate Shakes are ready-to-drink, high protein, meal replacements from Kate Farms. With all the things they are not you would think taste would be missing as well, but it isn’t. Each flavor – Cocoa Fudge, Jav ‘a Latte, and Vanilla Bliss – is delicious. Often high protein shakes like Komplete have a chalky aftertaste. These do not. Neither are they overly sweet.

The shakes are packaged in a 12-ounce tetra pak (boxed drink). The label recommends chilling and shaking well before drinking. Each shake is fortified with 35% of the daily recommendation for 12 vitamins and 10 minerals. The main protein sources are organic rice protein and pea protein. Inulin, a plant-based fiber, is the main source of fiber.

JavaLatte_Komplete-300• Cocoa Fudge has 330 calories, 19 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, 95 milligrams of sodium and 370 milligrams of potassium.
• Jav ‘a Latte has 310 calories, 17 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, 125 milligrams of sodium and 80 milligrams of potassium.
• Vanilla Bliss has 310 calories, 17 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, 125 milligrams of sodium and 80 milligrams of potassium.
In addition to using these shakes as an on-the-go meal replacement, they would be an excellent liquid nutrition supplement for those recovering from surgery, undergoing chemotherapy or for older adults in need of a nutrition boost. They are a far better tasting, high protein shake than many currently recommended in clinical settings.
