SpinachPestoBlackSleeve-300We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

Tofurky  best known for its meatless Tofurky roast has branched out into other meat free products. Its latest addition is Tofurky Artisan Sausages. They are vegan, non-GMO (not genetically modified), kosher certified (KSA), and preservative free. The sausages come in a 4-pack, each sausage is 3.5 ounces.

• Andouille Cajun-Style – 1 sausage has 270 calories, 29 grams of protein, 12 grams of fat (no cholesterol or trans fat), 450 milligrams of potassium and 550
milligrams of sodium
• Chick’n & Apple – 1 sausage has 260 calories, 29 grams of protein, 12 grams of
fat (no cholesterol or trans fat), 430 milligrams of potassium and 580 milligrams
of sodium
• Spinach Pesto – 1 sausage has 260 calories, 26 grams of protein, 12 grams of
fat (no cholesterol or trans fat), 1080 milligrams of potassium and 540 milligrams
of sodium

For true meat eaters the texture of Tofurky Sausages will probably not be satisfying but for vegetarians these offer a nice nonmeat alternative to enhance meals and recipes. In September 2013, Tofurky opened a new environmentally-friendly plant in Hood River, Oregon. It is the only second LEED (Leadership in Energy and Design) Certified Platinum food processing facility in the US. This green building has 1,400 square-foot ecoroof with its own vegetable garden.
