Numerous studies have suggested that lowfat milk is an excellent post-exercise drink to maximize hydration and muscle recovery. Premier High Protein Shakes are made of a protein blend that is based on milk protein. Strawberry, the newest flavor, adds to the product line of Chocolate and Vanilla (launched in early 2011).
All three flavors have a similar nutrition profile and all are fortified with 25% of the Daily Value of the following nutrients: vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, B6, B12, folate, pantothenic acid, biotin, calcium, iron, phosphorus, iodine, magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, chromium and molybdenum.
The Strawberry flavor is packed in a 11-ounce shelf-stable box with 160 calories (similar to the amount of calories found in a glass of whole milk), 3 grams of fat (1 gram is saturated fat), 25 milligrams of cholesterol, no trans fat, 30 grams of protein (the upper limit suggested for maximum utilization by the body at one feeding), 3 grams of carb, 1 gram of sugar, 2 grams of fiber, 390 milligrams of potassium and 330 milligrams of sodium.
The company recommends that all the protein shake flavors be chilled before drinking. We found the strawberry shake had a pleasant, not overly sweet flavor, with a slight undercurrent of chalkiness which is typical of high-protein drinks. Chilled very cold improved the flavor.
Premier Nutrition also makes protein bars and energy shots.
