We love to try new foods. Some are great. Some don’t measure up and some become staples in our kitchen. See what you think.

We are encouraged to eat half of our carb servings per day as whole grains. Few American meet this guideline and less than 5% of us get enough fiber daily. But, most of us love rice, especially white rice.

Uncle Ben’s has developed whole grain white rice that cooks in 10 minutes, half the time of brown rice.

Whole Grain White Rice comes in 6 flavors:

• Whole Grain White – Long Grain: A 1-cup serving has 170 calories, 1 gram of fat, no cholesterol or saturated fat, 4 grams of protein, 38 grams of carb, 1 gram of sugar, 4 grams of fiber, 80 milligrams of potassium and 5 milligrams of sodium.

• Whole Grain White – Taco: A 1-cup serving has 160 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, no saturated fat or cholesterol, 4 grams of protein, 35 grams of carb, 1 gram of sugar, 4 grams of fiber, 130 milligrams of potassium and 570 milligrams of sodium.

• Whole Grain White – Garden Vegetable: A 1-cup serving has 180 calories, 1 gram of fat, no saturated fat or cholesterol, 4 grams of protein, 40 grams of carb, 2 grams of sugar, 4 grams of fiber, 7 milligrams of potassium and 470 milligrams of sodium.

• Whole Grain White – Broccoli Cheddar: A 1-cup serving has 200 calories, 2 grams of fat (0.5 grams of which is saturated fat), no cholesterol, 5 grams of protein, 41 grams of carb, 1 gram of sugar, 4 grams of fiber, 5 milligrams of potassium and 560 milligrams of sodium.

• Whole Grain White – Creamy Chicken: A 1-cup serving has 200 calories, 2 grams of fat, no saturated fat or cholesterol, 5 grams of protein, 44 grams of carb, 1 gram of sugar, 5 grams of fiber, 360 milligrams of potassium and 590 milligrams of sodium.

• Whole Grain White – Sweet Tomato: A 1-cup serving has 210 calories, 1.5 grams of fat (0.5 grams of which is saturated fat), no cholesterol, 5 grams of protein, 46 grams of carb, 4 grams of sugar, 5 grams of fiber, 6 milligrams of potassium and 480 milligrams of sodium.

The only drawback to this product is that the package, as prepared, makes 2½ cups of cooked rice. This may not be enough for a family with children.
