Fast Food Fact: All Onions are Tearjerkers

Do your eyes water when you’re handling onions? When pungent onion varieties are cut or crushed, cells break and release two compounds, normally isolated from each other, which turn into sulfuric acid (battery acid). No wonder your eyes sting!
