Everyone is telling us to eat more fruits and vegetables. The new My Plate symbol from the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that your plate be half filled with fruits and vegetables. Most experts feel 5 to 9 servings a day are the optimum intake. Sadly, most Americans don’t even come close, unless you count French fries and ketchup.
Ideally, we’d like to see everyone walking around munching on a fresh apple or carrot sticks. Crunch Pak products might actually help us reach that goal. Crunch Pak is a leading producer of cleaned, ready-to-eat apple slices. The company developed the right width of apple slices and a breathable packaging system that gives fresh cut apples a 21-day shelf life.
We tasted a number of these items and each was excellent. Both the sliced fruits and vegetables retained their fresh taste and appearance and the portion sizes were very appropriate.
Crunch Pak offers a wide variety of fresh fruit and vegetable trays. Here are some worth a try.
Grab and Go Cups: Fresh apples packaged with grapes, lowfat caramel dip, or peanut butter, packaged in a 4.8-ounce plastic cup with lid.
Apple Snackers: Packaged in 5-ounce serving trays, fresh apple slices come alone or with cheese and grapes, cheese and pretzels, cheese and caramel, peanut butter and raisins, caramels and chocolate morsels, cheese and crackers, pretzel and raisins, or granola and peanut butter.
Disney Foodles: 5-ounce plastic trays that resemble a Mickey Mouse silhouette. They include apples with cheese and crackers, apples with caramel and cheese, apples with peanut butter and raisins, and apples with grapes and cheese.
Crunch Pak also makes appetizer trays and mini-trays with baby carrots and ranch dip, apples and yogurt dip, or just fresh grapes, washed and packed.
For time-crunched families these are great fresh produce options that are portable, portioned appropriately, and have an extended shelf life. Definitely a brand worth trying.
